Detroit Lions 2019 NFL Draft: Midseason, five-round mock
Detroit Lions 1st Round
9th Overall
In 2018, Quinn selected offensive center-guard Frank Ragnow, who has looked very good. If picking today, the Detroit Lions would select between 9th and 13th. Let’s call it 9th for fun.
We are also going to have to rely on a couple of sources to mock this out. Fanspeak’s On The Clock program works well, plus we’re going to consult NFL Draft Scout for rankings. Pick data will come from Pro Sports Transactions.
In our mock we had quite a few good options fall to us.
Defensive linemen/ edge players: Rashaan Gary, Quinnen Williams, Clelin Ferrell, and Jachai Polite
Cornerbacks: Greedy Williams, Michael Jackson, and Deandre Baker
Offensive Tackles: Jonah Williams and Greg Little
Pick: Clelin Ferrell, Edge, Clemson (6-4, 265, 4.78)
Having watched the Lions, we believe that an elite edge player would best serve the team. Needs exist along the offensive line, defensive line, linebackers, cornerbacks, receivers, etc. but getting versatile edge players is a key for Patricia to run his multiple defenses. Much of what Patricia likes to do is generate pressure using linebackers and edge players.
Also, it is very likely that the Lions will move on from Ziggy Ansah. In other words, the cupboard will be pretty bare. There are a few edge-outside linebacker types on the roster currently but none are elite. Devon Kennard, Christian Jones, Eli Harold, Eric Lee, and Romeo Okwara can all do some good things.
