The Detroit Lions and head coach Matt Patricia are feeling the heat following the trade of Golden Tate. That news and more in today’s edition of headlines.
The Detroit Lions traded away their top wide receiver on Tuesday. And now their feeling the heat as their season hangs in the balance. Will the Lions be able to move on from Golden Tate successfully … or will it be their undoing?
Today’s version of headlines covers that hot topic as well as a new signing on defense and a bit of levity all wrapped up into one. Let’s dive in.
Matt Patricia snaps at reporter for posture during news conference – Detroit Free Press
In an ironic twist, one of the most unkempt coaches in the entire NFL had the nerve to snap at a reporter on Wednesday for not sitting up straight when asking a question. It seems the pressure has taken its toll on Matt Patricia through just his first seven games in the position. Someone tell Matty P it’s 2018, it’s time to lose the pencil.
Lions sign Kelvin Sheppard – Pro Football Talk
Detroit found success signing a former New York Giants’ linebacker as a free agent in Devon Kennard this offseason. Maybe they can capture lightning in a bottle twice with the addition of Kelvin Sheppard this week. Sheppard is a former third round pick that is only two years removed from a 100+ tackle season.
Trading Golden Tate signals Lions aren’t serious about 2018 – ESPN.com
Clearly, the Lions saw an opportunity to get back their lost third round pick and leaped on it with the Tate trade. But giving away your leading pass catcher does send a bad message to this team in the heat of a divisional race for first place. It was a risky move by this front office that has to pay off.
Patricia: Lions must turn page quickly after Tate trade – The Detroit News
The way the Lions turn the page on the Tate trade is by replacing his production. Whether that be through rookie Brandon Powell, T.J. Jones, or Theo Riddick. Someone will need to step up and become the new YAC King in Motown. My money is on Jones.

Finally, a little fun here. One thing about Matt Patricia every one can agree on is the fact the young head coach has a certain look. And it’s rather easy to dress up as him at Halloween. All you need is a Lions hat and sweatshirt, a pencil, maybe a headset and the bushiest dark beard you can find. It’s an instant holiday classic. Now just walk around and tell random people to sit up straight and you’ll have the impression nailed cold.
