The quarter opened up with a 12-yard catch by Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay. Another catch by Willson made the down and distance 3rd & 2. But on that play, Stafford was sacked for a significant loss and just like that the Lions had to punt the ball away.

On 2nd & 5, Wilson tucked the ball and gained 4-yards and on 3rd and short, Ed Dickson came down with a large gain through the air. The Seahawks continued to drive the ball down the field and on 3rd & goal, the defense came up with a big stop.
The Seahawks went for it on 4th down but Nick Vannett ran out of bounds before he caught the touchdown pass and that resulted in a flag on the Seahawks and most importantly a loss of the points they just scored.
Detroit took over from their own 1-yard line and LeGarrette was held for no gain on his first carry in that area. Marvin Jones caught a 5-yard pass to buy his team a little breathing room and on 3rd & 6, Kerryon Johnson converted with a screen pass that he took for 24-yards. Kerryon caught another pass and he absolutely shoved his defender to the ground as he gained 11 more yards. Johnson caught another pass for 5-yards but Detroit had to punt the ball away for the fourth time.
The Detroit defense came out looking for a crucial stop and they immediately pushed Seattle to a third down. But on 3rd & 8, Wilson hit Lockett on an easy pitch-and-catch for the first down. The third quarter came to an end with the Seahawks facing a 3rd & 5 situation.
