Lions vs. Seahawks: 3 stars land on injury report

The Detroit Lions could be without three of their big stars when they take on the equally surging Seattle Seahawks who are coming off their bye week.

The Detroit Lions are on a bit of a roll. After losing their first two games of the season, they have won three of their last four. And those victories came against some quality opponents in the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers, and the Miami Dolphins.

Under new head coach Matt Patricia, we knew there would be the possibility of a slow transition. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. While the offense remained relativity intact, adding upgrades along the offensive line and at running back, the defense was completely retooled.

The defense had to be reshaped in order to implement Patricia’s multiple defensive scheme that he brought over from his ultra-successful run with the Patriots. And as the season has wore on, the new faces and the new scheme has slowly been adapted, improving every practice and every game.

Now, the 3-3 Lions are in the thick of a divisional race with the 4-2-1 Minnesota Vikings at the top of the NFC North standings. And in Week Eight, Detroit will welcome the equally surging 3-3 Seattle Seahawks to Ford Field. Seattle mirrors Detroit this season, having lost their first two matchups. And they too have now won three of their last four games.

The Seahawks come to Motown this Sunday off their bye week. So they should be well-rested and well-prepared for this matchup. According to the official injury report, Seattle has not ruled out a single player for this contest yet. Offensive guard Jordan Simmons (calf) and cornerback Neiko Thorpe (groin) are both listed as doubtful, while defensive end Rasheem Green (ankle) is questionable for Sunday’s game.

The Lions have some big names appearing on their side of the injury report. Once again Detroit will be without the services of running back Theo Riddick. He’ll miss his second straight game due to a knee injury. That likely means more snaps for rookie running back Kerryon Johnson.

Despite once again practicing all week on a limited basis, defensive end Ezekiel Ansah is considered questionable to make his return. Ansah, who was signed to a massive $17.143 million franchise tag this offseason, has been sidelined since Week One with a shoulder injury.

Also questionable for this matchup against the Seahawks is Lions’ second-year linebacker Jarrad Davis. The 2017 first rounder injured his calf against the Dolphins and was limited in practice on both Thursday and Friday after missing Wednesday’s session altogether.
