Fourth Quarter

The Lions forced Miami into another punt to open the final quarter as they looked to hold on for the win. Golden Tate added to Detroit’s impressive rushing total as he gained 30 yards on a jet sweep play.

Ameer Abdullah got a snap to run the ball and he picked up a yard against Miami’s defense. Detroit tried for a bubble screen to Tate but he fumbled after the catch but he fought and he recovered the ball. After that ugly sequence, Prater came in and knocked through a 35-yard field goal, 29-14 Detroit.

Looking to make something happen on offense, Miami came out trying to push the ball in the last quarter and a questionable defensive pass interference penalty on Quandre Diggs helped to keep the Dolphin drive moving forward.

Darius Slay was tested deep by Osweiler as he covered Kenny Stills but “Big Play” Slay had a phenomenal pass breakup though he was hurting after the play. Osweiler missed on a pass to Kenyan Drake in the end zone but on the next third down play, he found Danny Amendola with a pretty 24-yard pass for his first touchdown catch in Miami, 29-21 Detroit.

The Lions took over only up by a single possession and Stafford hit Tate with a short pass on the right side and he found his trademark yards after the catch for a gain of 22. On a massive 3rd & 7 play, Stafford was incomplete on a pass to Golladay but Miami was flagged for interference and Detroit moved forward with the ball as they gained an automatic first down.

On the next third down play, Kerryon gained two yards as the game came to its two-minute warning. Matt Prater came in for a 50-yard field goal and he knocked through his longest score of the year, 32-21 Detroit.

With his back firmly against the wall, Brock Osweiler began to march his team down the field into Detroit’s territory. Nevin Lawson got flagged for defensive holding and gifted another first down to Miami. On the next play, linebacker Jarrad Davis got Detroit’s fourth sack of the game for a loss of two yards for the Dolphins. Miami then missed a 46-yard field goal which in turn led to Detroit kneeling to run the time off the clock, 32-21 Detroit Final.
