The Detroit Lions are 0-2 with a tough schedule of opponents ahead. Is it too early to be looking towards the draft? Not in today’s headlines!

The 2018 version of the Detroit Lions is a franchise in transition. Although they are not a rebuilding team as they have too much talent, the Lions are certainly not the same squad that posted winning records three of the past four seasons. Under new head coach Matt Patricia, Detroit is still a team learning a new scheme defensively and struggling to find their identity in a new culture.

In today’s version of headlines, we cover a spectrum of Lions-related topics. From the upcoming primetime battle against the New England Patriots, the status of the offensive line, all the way to the 2019 NFL Draft.

Only two games into the 2018 regular season, it’s far too early to be thinking about the NFL Draft. Yet, the Lions winless record combined with their tough upcoming schedule has some thinking Detroit could land the number one pick come next offseason.

And the prize is clearly Ohio State pass rusher Nick Bosa. Touted as a possible better prospect than his brother, Los Angeles Chargers Joey Bosa, who was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2017, Nick could absolutely transform Detroit’s defensive line.

Lions bring back cornerback DeShawn Shead – Pro Football Talk

Fans had high hopes for the former Legion of Boom member in the Motor City this offseason. And his release was a bit of a shock as Shead was thought to be in a battle with Nevin Lawson and Teez Tabor for a starting role on this Detroit defense. His signing probably means Pro Bowl corner Darius Slay is doubtful to play against the Patriots Sunday night due to his concussion.

NFL Offensive Line Rankings – after Week 2 – Pro Football Focus

In the above ranking, Motown finds itself ranked a lowly 22nd. And that’s due in large part to the poor play of first-round rookie Frank Ragnow. Despite looking like a sure-thing in the offseason, Ragnow has played like a Rag-doll through his first two regular season games. But after what we saw in training camp and the preseason, you have to believe the 20th overall pick will get his legs underneath him at some point.

5 things to watch: Lions could face Tom Brady and Josh Gordon without Darius Slay – MLive.com

This is going to be a big matchup for former second-round pick, cornerback Teez Tabor. With Slay likely to miss the game due to a concussion, Tabor should be forced to play major minutes. And that could become a weak spot for the Patriots to attack all night.

Lions’ Quin says instincts are lagging in new scheme – The Detroit News

The veteran safety admits what we’ve all been thinking, this new defensive scheme will take time to learn. Defenders are taking an extra fraction of a second to process where they need to be and how they should react. And that slight hesitation results in bad coverages, more penalties, poor tackling angles, and can be the difference in allowing a big gain or getting a critical stop.
