Where do the Detroit Lions and Matt Patricia go from here?

After the Detroit Lions were shot down by the New York Jets and their rookie quarterback on Monday night, How can this team turn things around?

The Detroit Lions marched out onto Ford Field this past Monday night confident that the preseason was behind them and that they were ready to play like contenders.

Instead they played like no one on the team had ever seen a football before or had any clue how the game was played.

In short, the New York Jets embarrassed the Lions completely and totally, in every phase of the game. Outside of Quandre Diggs intercepting Sam Darnold‘s first professional pass on his first play from scrimmage and returning it to the house for a touchdown, there was nothing for any self-respecting Lions fan to cheer about.

Or to sum it up more precisely in the words of Bill Murray from the movie Scrooged, Oh my gosh, does that suck!

Yes, all the fans that started their great exodus from Ford Field after the Jets third quarter blitzkrieg that put the game out of the reach for these pathetic Lions were well justified.

Meanwhile any of them that stuck around, in horror, trying to wake up from some bad dream they must have been having, as well as any of the fans who watched on T.V. until this launch of a new season had sunk to the bottom of the NFL waters faster than the Titanic, the roar of all the Jets fans taking over Ford Field had to be sickening to hear.

J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!

If that wasn’t a Maalox moment, I don’t know what is. Yet, the Matt Patricia era had begun no different than their exhibition season had ended. A sputtering offense and inept defense, with no relief in sight.

If this wasn’t so painfully familiar to Lions fans everywhere, it would almost be funny.
