Heading into Week 1 of the regular season, the Detroit Lions are leaving fans with many questions about the final roster. What a rough start to 2018.

Kudos to whoever predicted the Detroit Lions would carry six wide receivers. I bet that was no one. How about only three defensive tackles? Six safeties? Slice it however you want, but this roster looks substandard. Changes are likely on the way, but when?

I can agree with how the offense is divvied up for the exception of the receiver position. There’s no need for six especially when the Lions need help on defense and already have four tight ends.

Speaking of defense, Detroit’s depth at defensive tackle is razor-thin. Granted, some of the defensive ends, which appears weaker, can kick inside. Some of the linebackers are of the outside pass rushing type so that helps the front four on the edges.

More crossing over continues in the backend. There’s some safeties that play more like inside linebackers and others that can play cornerback. Mind you, the defensive backfield is too loaded. The front seven needs more reinforcements.

The two waiver claims of cornerback Dee Virgin and offensive tackle Andrew Donnal are complete head-scratchers. If those players stick around and aren’t upgraded, I’d be shocked.

Same goes for backup quarterback with Matt Cassel. All those position groups need improvement. Personnel versatility helps make sense of the weird numbers on the roster. If I had to alter anything, here are my other changes I plead the Detroit Lions execute …
