As the Detroit Lions finalize the roster for the impending start of the season, one has to wonder if Matt Patricia is already being ‘Lionized’.

The Detroit Lions, like the rest of the NFL, are in the process of finalizing their roster this weekend. Saturday was cut down day and now we are in the midst of the free agent garage sale that results from those moves.

After all, just like one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, the same can be said about the NFL. Players that didn’t make one team’s roster are now waiting for a call from another team who believes in them.

It falls under the category of ‘leaving no stone unturned’.

For the Lions who just completed an utterly pathetic and forgettable exhibition season, the real work begins now.

Trying to piece together a decent roster that will find a way to be more competitive then it’s preseason predecessors will be interesting. Especially on the defensive side of the ball where even the hot dog vendors have gained yardage on them.

Despite the understanding that the preseason means nothing in comparison to actually winning in the regular season, how a team plays is noteworthy.

The offense has had issues, but it has also flashed some promise and players with pleasantly surprising performances. Players like tight end Hakeem Valles and receiver Brandon Powell that came out of nowhere to make the team.

Meanwhile, the Lions defense has been incredibly undisciplined and any opposing players that have stepped on the field against them have flourished. As a matter of fact, the Lions defense may have played it’s best game in their exhibition opening 16-10 loss against the Oakland Raiders.

While that performance wasn’t pretty, it has gone downhill from there fast and furiously. The defense is the specific facet of this team Matt Patricia was brought in to fix while also managing the entirety of on-field operations.

So what has happened?
