The Detroit Lions Twitter account had a little good-natured fun after the Green Bay Packers selected a punter in Round 5.

When the Round 5 of the NFL Draft rolled around, the Detroit Lions saw a curious pick by the rival Green Bay Packers.

So, the Lions official Twitter account decided to have a little good-natured fun with the pick by tweeting out this thought:

Naturally, not everyone thought this was just a good-natured joke. Words were tweeted back and forth before Packers fans quickly turned to the last minute Hail-Mary play that beat the Lions inside Ford Field back in 2015. It’s okay, Lions fans are used to hearing about this. And, though a faux-facemask call led to the final play even happening, we know it did happen and can’t be changed.

This year, Lions have more ammunition as the team from the Motor City swept the Packers in 2017. We know Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t play in those games. But, each team can only play against the other players put on the field. They don’t get to choose which players are 100 percent healthy. They don’t get to choose to take the best shot every team has to offer.

And, leaning on two recent wins, the Detroit Lions are feeling a little more confidence this offseason. That confidence resulted in a fun tweet. They weren’t stating a fact or predicting any number of wins. They were simply using social media to connect with a fan base about something that happened in the draft.

The thread of tweets that followed leads us to some deeper meaning: this is a true rivalry. It might have been one-sided for a long period of time, but that’s changed. Rodgers or not, the Lions took two wins from the Packers last year.

In a league that often asks, “What have you done for me lately?” Sweeping a team within the division is substantial. And lately, the Lions have been winning. There’s a long wait until the season starts and anything can change. For now, these cats are oozing some confidence. Since football is a game, after all, you might as well have some fun!
