As the Detroit Lions continue to search for ways to upgrade the level of talent on their roster, would former Cowboy Dez Bryant be worth a look?

The Dallas Cowboys made big news this week as they released their talented receiver Dez Bryant this past Friday. Upon the news being announced, new Detroit Lions running back LeGarrette Blount took to social media to send Bryant a message; ‘Come play in Detroit bro’.

Now, Blount’s message does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Lions front office on the situation, but since he has expressed it, let’s take a minute to look at how Bryant may or may not fit in Detroit.

If we start from a monetary aspect, while Bryant will most likely be taking a pay cut when he signs his next contract, his asking price will most likely still be outside of what the Lions would be willing to spend. Even if they have a high level of interest.

Another fact is that the Lions receiving corps is the strongest position group on the team. Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and T.J. Jones form what will most likely be their top four on the depth chart and it is a group not to be taken lightly.

Marvin Jones entered last year after a solid offseason program that made him stronger and coupled with better technique produced an outstanding year. Golden Tate played to his usual brilliance as possibly the most elusive receiver in the NFL after the catch, while Kenny Golladay missed time due to injuries, but showed extreme potential and T.J. Jones may not have posted big numbers, but was very reliable making plenty of big catches over course of the season.

While improvement is a necessity every team faces each season, the fact of the matter is that Golladay and T.J. Jones are both still young at 24 and 25 respectively. At 28-years old, Marvin Jones is still in his prime and Tate hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down yet despite the fact that he will be 30-years old by the start of training camp.
