Once the crowd of 58,000 caught on to what was happening, the frenzied calls of “SUUUUHHHH!!” rang through Ford Field with an extra giddiness. It was one of those rare moments of absurdity that serves as a reminder that obsessively following a sports team can actually be fun, even when they lose.

During any given game, there’s always that chance that you can witness something you’ve never seen before, and are unlikely to ever see again. Ndamukong Suh lining up to kick a crucial extra point is one of those moments.

Whether or not Suh made the kick was, for that instant anyway, completely irrelevant. I mean, would anyone have been surprised if he went out there and toe-balled one directly into the back of his long snapper?

With barely enough time to even let it sink in that DOM SUH! was kicking the extra point, the ball was snapped. To the delight of the home crowd, Suh actually had a pretty smooth kicking motion. It was like Freddy Couples sending a pitching wedge onto the green. Or even like flipping through the pages of People magazine while in the waiting room at the dentist. Suh casually swung his massive right leg back, the kick was up, it FEELS good, and….

AHHH! He banged it off the right crossbar. Everyone had a good chuckle, but the Lions’ slim lead remained 13-10.
