Round 2, pick 51 – G Billy Price, Ohio State
Addressing the offensive line should help the running game. And bringing in a guy like Price with an attacking mentality coming off the ball is a recipe for success.
The knock on him is his lack of patience, which he’ll have to work on. But getting off the line to help gain those short, tough yards is something the Lions lacked in 2017.
The loss of center Travis Swanson in free agency opens up a hole on the offensive line. Price can play guard or center for the Lions. Offensive lineman Graham Glasgow can do the same. Let them practice together and insert them into the lineup next to each other in 2018.
Round 3, pick 82 – RB Nick Chubb, Georgia
This time around, the Lions address the running back situation on Day 2 of the draft by snagging Nick Chubb. He came back from a leg injury in college to be the bell cow for the runners-up to the national championship last year. He’s a solid, power option added to the roster.
The Lions already signed running back LeGarrette Blount to go with every other running back that was on the roster in 2017. The competition at this position will drive the starters to be excellent or risk getting benched, cut or traded.
Many of the other running back options may be off the board by this selection, but landing Chubb will improve this position in the Motor City.
