What will the Detroit Lions do in the upcoming NFL Draft? This updated 4-round mock draft takes another shot at playing general manager.

With the NFL Draft a little more than two weeks away, here’s another look at what the Detroit Lions might do in the first four rounds. In my previous mock draft, I had the Lions heavy on defense and waiting to select a running back until the fourth round.

Waiting on a running back is still possible with the depth at the position in this year’s draft. Now that we’ve seen the Lions moves in free agency, here’s a new view of what the team might consider doing during the draft without factoring in any possible trades for this exercise.

Round 1, pick 20 – DE Harold Landry, Boston College

If Landry’s on the board, he should be the Detroit Lions pick. He’s drawn comparisons to Atlanta Falcons pass rusher Vic Beasley and has a quick burst off the line.

With defensive end Ziggy Ansah playing under the franchise tag without a guaranteed long-term contract, addressing the edge is a priority in this year’s draft. Even with Ansah on the field, another rotational player would be helpful.

The team could certainly look at the interior of the defensive line with a player like Michigan’s Maurice Hurst. They addressed the interior by signing Sylvester Williams in free agency, but that might end their plans to add players at the position.

While defensive tackle would certainly help at #20 overall, Landry coming off the edge is crucial for the defense as well.
