With a lack of what they need talent wise, the Detroit Lions must spend wisely in free agency. And be even wiser in the draft.

General manager Bob Quinn of the Detroit Lions must tread lightly in free agency this year.

Specifically, on the offensive side of the ball, as much of the players are either in place, or there is no one of real impact available.

Three positions on the offense are pretty much set. The Lions may look to add depth, but nothing more:

  • Quarterback
    • Looks like quarterback Matthew Stafford will start again this year. Of course, that’s a good thing. Detroit has their guy and need look no further.
    • Backup quarterback Jake Rudock should be back, especially since he can only negotiate with Detroit.
  • Tight End
    • Blocking tight end Darren Fells should be a priority to resign.
    • Trade rumors about tight end Eric Ebron could change the need here, but as of right now, Ebron is the clear starter.
  • Wide Receiver
    • Free agent wide receiver T.J. Jones is fourth on the depth chart. Worth resigning, but only at the right price.
    • If Jones leaves, it means someone else will have to step up into this role. Not such a bad proposition when you are locked in with your top three wide receivers: Golden Tate, Marvin Jones Jr., and 2017 rookie Kenny Golladay.

So, what comes next are the two positions of need for this offense …
