Kerry Hyder, Defensive End

Every year during the preseason, I hope and pray that the Lions can make it through healthy.

Unfortunately, Kerry Hyder’s season ended before it could officially begin. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on August 13, 2017.

Coming off of his feel good story in 2016, I was truly rooting for him to repeat his success. The only silver lining in this whole thing is that he could be fully healthy by the start of camp.

Detroit is in desperate need of a pass rush and if Hyder is able to return to his 2016 form, it would be a shot in the arm for the Lions’ defensive front.

Travis Swanson, Center

Over the past three seasons, Travis Swanson has played in 37 out of 48 games. Concussions have ended his season prematurely in the last two years.

I do not take brain injuries lightly and I honestly feel like Swanson should consider what quality of life he desires post football.

Hopefully he doesn’t jeopardize his future health and welfare with a return to the field.

The Lions dealt with several injuries throughout the year.

The ones that I’ve highlighted here are the four that ended a starter’s season sooner than expected and had significant ripple effects on the rest of the team.
