There were a few injuries that significantly impacted the Detroit Lions last season. I researched to find out their current status.

Haloti Ngata, Defensive Tackle

Ngata was initially injured during the Detroit Lions’ Week 5 game against the Carolina Panthers on October 8, 2017.

As he left the field that day, it was initially believed to be an elbow injury. Later, it was confirmed that he had torn his bicep.

The Lions placed him on injured reserve just four days after his injury.

Haloti’s injury was especially tough for Detroit because up until he went down, the team was giving up a little less than 75 rushing yards per game. That number rapidly ballooned to nearly 130 rushing yards given up in his absence.

Despite his current status as an unrestricted free agent, Ngata still wants to play. He still wants to play for Detroit and have the opportunity to finish the season and his career on his own terms.

His bicep injury is thought to have a four month healing process. That means Ngata should be ready to go by the time camp begins.

There’s a new regime in Detroit though and there’s no guarantee that they’d be willing to offer him a new contract.

Personally, I would like to see him return on a team friendly deal. Ngata’s presence and football IQ would be of great benefit to the locker room.
