So when the Lions season ended prematurely considering the playoff dreams they had been having, it also marked the end of a season that was probably fulfilling in some ways for Davis, but just as frustrating as well.

Now there is a new sheriff in town. Matt Patricia has arrived to save the day for this franchise and fans alike, hopefully. What he brings with him is his ability to get the most out of players.

Remember that in New England, Patricia was almost always given the short end of the stick. The Patriots were a team that didn’t spend money to retain any high priced players outside of quarterback Tom Brady. They were also a team that tended to spend money on offense much more so than defense.

This of course led to Matt Patricia having to turn many ‘no name’ defenses into cohesive units that could not only make plays, but wouldn’t give up points. Something he was extremely successful at. Patricia displayed an ability to turn whatever the Patriots front office gave him into gold.

The million dollar question everyone asks is; how did he do it?

The attribute that Patricia has received the most acclaim for is his ability to not only create game-plans that work, but to also make in-game adjustments. Something the former regime here in Detroit was unable to do. However, Matt Patricia is first and foremost a teacher.

He has displayed the uncanny ability to communicate ideas to his players in a way that they can not only understand what he is teaching them, but also apply those lessons to the field in a productive manner.

There will be many nuances of the Lions that Patricia will want to put his fingerprints on, but you can definitely expect him to work with his young middle linebacker to make him a cornerstone of this defense.
