The Lions on NBC: A brief and unfortunate history

Detroit is currently 0-7 (including two playoff beatdowns) on NBC since the network jumped back in the game with Sunday Night Football. Which means, that special night in the Silverdome the week before Christmas 1997 is still their last win on NBC.

December 2011 @ New Orleans L 17-31– In my mind, this will always be the “Sinners vs Saints” game. Ndamukong Suh was suspended, so about six other guys took it upon themselves to pick up his slack in the cheap shot department. Also was the first red flag that Titus Young Sr. might not be a good fit.

January 2012 @ New Orleans L 28-45 (playoffs)- “Sinners vs Saints II” . I actually thought the Lions played great in this one. I was happy to see them in the playoffs again. Stafford and Calvin made it a game for a while. The secondary gave up about 500 passing yards to Drew Brees though. About 400 of them went to whoever Aaron Berry‘s man was at any time.

September 2012 @ San Francisco L 19-27- The previous time the teams met, Jim Harbaugh had slapped Jim Schwartz on the shoulder in an aggressive manner. Or maybe it was the other way around. The story line was of a budding rivalry between those two coaches. As if they were equals. They were not.

December 2012 @ Green Bay L 20-27- 2012 was already a lost season by this point, so it didn’t really matter. Lions went up 14-0 in the first half and didn’t do much else. Detroit didn’t win another game that year.
