The 2017 Detroit Lions are never truly out of a game
Maybe Not.
Stafford immediately throws his third pick of the day, right in the end zone for a Saints’ touchdown. There’s actually still plenty of time left, but another pick finally puts it away for good. My brother gets his wish though. When the Lions actually do have the greatest comeback in NFL history, they’ll save it for a playoff game.
The loss drops them to 3-3, but honestly there’s no way I can even be upset about that result. It’s one of those few games where the entertainment value is so high that the final score really stops mattering at a certain point.
I’m sure there will be plenty of other demoralizing losses forthcoming that I can really agonize about. Not this week though.. My main takeaway was that the new cliche was proven once again. No matter the score, the Lions are never truly out of a game.
In case you missed it…
- I’d be very surprised if Stafford got out of bed this morning. That’s 17 sacks in three games for the poor guy. He’s obviously injured in a lot of different places right now. His pride has not yet been wounded, however.
- It felt like four games worth of football, all wrapped up in one grotesquely interesting Sunday at the Superdome. 4 defensive touchdowns, a special teams touchdown, a few pretty terrible instant replay decisions, a massive blowout turned into a nail biter that turned back into a comfortable win for the Saints.
- For Detroit, it’s still just one loss.

- Matthew Stafford, in just one game, wins the John Navarre Lifetime Achievement Award for passes batted at the line of scrimmage.
- Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone. Stop smiling, that’s a man’s health and livelihood. Seriously though, he did.
