Here are the details that you need to know in order to watch the Detroit Lions’ regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Detroit Lions will face the Arizona Cardinals in their regular season opener this Sunday in their home stadium, Ford Field. The Lions will attempt to make their third playoff appearance in four years this season. And their first test will be the Cardinals.

Arizona feels like a team in decline. After posting a 7-8-1 record last year and missing the postseason, the Cardinals are on a bit of a “last hurrah”. With the future of aging veterans in quarterback Carson Palmer, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and head coach Bruce Arians all in doubt past this season, this could be a final act for this nucleus in Arizona.

The Lions’ defense will still have their hands full containing one of the most exciting and talented running backs in the NFL in Cardinals’ running back David Johnson.

As for Detroit’s offense, quarterback Matthew Stafford makes his regular season debut after signing a massive six-year, $135 million contract extension that made him the highest paid player in NFL history. But more important in this game may be the play of Lions’ running back Ameer Abdullah, whose success on the ground could help balance out their pass heavy offensive attack.
