Impressive Home Openers

2003 vs Cardinals (W 42-24)– “Two teams expected to be among the NFL’s worst played a close game for almost three quarters”Associated Press game recap

What was impressive:

Joey Harrington tossed four touchdown passes with zero turnovers in this game.

This was the only four TD passing game of his career. Charles Rogers was also a beast in his first regular season game, with two receiving touchdowns in the first half (sadly, he only had two more for the rest of his career)

Rest of the season:

Both teams lived up to their billing and were indeed among the NFL’s worst by season’s end.

The Lions finished 5-11 in Steve Mariucci’s first season, with this game providing the only difference between them and the 4-12 Cardinals.
