Fells actually signed with the Lions as I was writing this article. He is known as one of the better blocking tight ends in the league. Inconsistencies at the tight end position, namely drops from Eric Ebron, have plagued the Lions for years.

Fells didn’t even actually play college football. He was a basketball player at UC Irvine from 2004 to 2008. He then played professional basketball overseas from 2008-2012. The Seattle Seahawks signed him as an offseason member in 2013, and then later cut him. Fells eventually found a role with the Arizona Cardinals.

Detroit shouldn’t expect Fells to pull in a bunch of receptions, but at 6-feet-7-inches, he is a big red zone target. His blocking ability is going to be a big help for the Lions as well.

Note: Lions have also just signed Michigan-native (and star player for my biggest rival team in high school ), wide receiver, Keshawn Martin. They just a few hours ago have reportedly agreed on a deal that will bring in guard, T.J. Lang, another Michigan product to solidify the offensive line.
