The cloaking identity of the 2016 Detroit Lions franchise is summarized in one word : Collectivism.

While the average Detroit Lions fan is still questioning what the roster will look like in the upcoming 2016 NFL season, the Lions are steadily pruning themselves for a journey into franchise metamorphosis. Now this isn’t some theoretical gibberish I’m composing to sound fancy, the atmosphere over in Allen Park during this week’s Training Camp was extremely militant and focused. You ask why? I will tell you it is because of GM Bob Quinn. What has happened that has not been before in Lions franchise history is the implementation of collectivism within the organization. Whether PR, Facilities, Security or Nutrition, each and every member of the Lions franchise now see themselves as pivotal instruments in the how successful the 2016 season will be. When I met Bob back in March before resigning, I recall him having more questions for me than I did for him. Being filled with nervousness at the time,  I now understand his method of leadership as being based solely on progression and not a dictatorship. New dynamics in administration forces me to entitle the revitalized Detroit Lions as the “All Systems Go” franchise. This new mentality now engulfing the Lions franchise won’t be easily comprehended but it’s soon manifestation will be the surprise of many.

2016 Defensive Projections via @LarryJrNFL

  1. NFL Top 15 in Rushing Yards allowed.
  2. NFL Top 10 in Forced Fumbles.
  3. NFL Top 8  lowest in defensive penalties.
  4. NFC North’s top scoring defense (Bold Prediction).

In the first of my  “All Systems Go” articles soon to come, let’s examine the defensive side of the ball. There (on defense) the Lions may be quietly constructing a powerhouse to be reckoned with over the next half of decade. Now Darius Slay Jr. inked his anticipated $48 million 4-year extension at the end of last month, and expectations are high for CB Nevin Lawson.

During last Tuesday’s Public Training Camp session I observed GM Bob Quinn and Defensive Coordinator

Teryl Austin

having a long chat on the far side of the field. Perhaps the frustration revolved around De’Andre Levy’s year ending hip surgery and that was the meat of the conversation? Maybe the council held was in regards to what Teryl Austin needs from his GM in order to be successful this year. Maybe they were discussing the schematics around how they can improve their run defense this season? Awaiting, the upcoming 2016 Lions schedule features only three teams with prolific rushing attacks (Vikings & Rams). Now, it is never safe to underestimate opposing teams in the NFL but my above defensive projections should manifest fairly will towards the conclusion of this season. Another hidden agenda for the Lions is their quiet passion for building a solid defense.  S Rafael Bush and DB Darin Walls weren’t acquired as plug-ins. Both practiced/played frequently with/against elite QB’s (Bush/Brees, Walls/Brady) meaning much of their experience will enhance the maturation of the 3 Amigos (DB Quandre Diggs, DB Nevin Lawson, DB Darius Slay). From here on out its “All Systems Go” for the Lions.
