If Jaylon Smith is still available at this point, there is no question that the Lions should take him. If he hadn’t been injured he would be a top 3 pick. I’d be surprised if he lasted this late but the injury does cause a lot of concern. It would be truly boom or bust and if he recovers would be the steal of the draft if taken in the 3rd.

Another guy I have for the Lions in the 3rd is outside linebacker Deion Jones. I’d nearly pick him over Chris Jones because the Lions still have a need at outside linebacker but we may see more of Josh Bynes this season with Whitehead moving inside. Deion Jones is smart, quick to react and does pretty well in coverage. If the Lions have an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd and can take a defensive tackle with either of those picks then Deion Jones should be taken in the 3rd with either pick.
