As I headed toward Ford Field on October 27, 2013 to watch the Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys. I had no idea that I would witness history. Of course, when Calvin Johnson is on the field, special things happen. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw that day. At halftime I went outside to have my traditional halftime cigarette. There seemed to be a dull roar among us “How many yards does Calvin Johnson have?” or “What is the record”. Everyone noticed that Megatron was near the 200 yard mark.As I searched through Google I found out the record was 336 yards by Flipper Anderson in 1989, but Anderson only had 296 yards at the end of regulation. That day was pure magic and no player more magic than #81. Man Coverage? Doubles? Triples? None of it mattered that day. At one point you began to feel bad for the Cowboys, not me personally but others did. As we left Ford Field after the last second electrifying win local sports radio was claiming that Calvin Johnson had racked up 329 yards receiving, a mere 7 yards short of the record. Calvin Johnson has decided to call it a career. I couldn’t help but to go through Twitter and Facebook and try to gauge a response to the news. Much to my surprise, most of the comments were positive and reflective on what a fantastic talent we were able to witness, even in what seemed like a brief nine year career. Here are five memorable performances that we will talking about for years to come.
