Free Agency Match Game: Offense Edition
By Al Stahl
Offensive Tackle
At tackle, the Lions have Riley Reiff and Michael Ola returning. The pair played solidly down the stretch and should be an ok pairing going into the season, but the Lions front office will certainly try to upgrade the position this offseason. Behind those two there’s Cornelius Lucas and Corey Robinson, a pair of big-bodied linemen that just aren’t very good.
There will be plenty of good talent available on the market when free agency starts on Wednesday including Kelechi Osemele, Mitchell Schwartz, Donald Penn, Kelvin Beachum, Joe Barksdale and Russell Okung. The Lions are expected to upgrade the offensive line through free agency this year and tackle is the perfect spot to do it. Plenty of guys are available which means Detroit won’t have to overpay for better production than they got last year. Couple that with an underwhelming draft class at the position, and the Lions are almost certainly adding one of these guys.
