It’s been nearly a month since we’ve watched Lions football, but it feels like forever. Don’t worry, it’ll get here eventually. That being said, let’s see what’s been going on with the Detroit Lions this past week.
Calvin’s Retirement Decision Expected Soon
Bob Quinn said that he will talk to Calvin Johnson about his decision before free agency.
The decision on whether or not Calvin Johnson is going to retire remains up in the air. Bob Quinn still has not talked to Calvin regarding his decision, but it’s understandable that he wants to hear from him before the start of free agency.
If Calvin does decide to retire, the Lions would need to find someone who can replace him; those are some big shoes to fill. Nobody is expecting anyone else to come in and be the ‘next Calvin Johnson’, but the Lions would need to find a solid number 2 option to go along with Golden Tate.
Ansah Voted NFC North Defensive Player of the Year
Lions DE Ziggy Ansah was voted the unanimous choice for NFC North Defensive Player of the Year.
This year just keeps getting better for Ziggy Ansah. As if he hasn’t racked up enough accolades this season, he adds another one to the list. Along with being an incredible football player, he’s also a pretty generous person as well. Last week Ziggy donated 94,000 bottles of water to the city of Flint, Michigan and he’s also taking his defensive line and coaches on a trip to Hawaii to go with him to the Pro Bowl.
Lions Getting New Alternate Jerseys Next Season
The Lions are introducing a new alternate jersey this coming season.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press said that the Lions will be unveiling a new alternate jersey this fall. It’s been quite some time since the Lions have worn another uniform other than their basic blue and white jerseys; the last time they wore an alternate jersey was back on Thanksgiving day in 2010. We’re not sure what the jerseys will look like, but many fans are hoping for the black alternates to return.
