The Detroit Lions have filled their GM position with former Patriot Bob Quinn. And everyone has an opinion.
When news broke Friday evening that former New England Patriots director of pro personnel Bob Quinn was being hired as the new Lions GM, everyone on Twitter started freaking out.
Detroit Lions are expected to hire Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn as their general manager, league sources told ESPN.

First task for #Lions new GM Bob Quinn: Get a new photo.
— Paula Pasche (@paulapasche) January 9, 2016
And @BeastFBall had a suggestion for who the new GM could hire:
Bob Quinn better hire Hue or else

After the initial shock wore off though, Lions fans had questions:
Soon. Like after Quinn and Caldwell sit down and meet. Surely it's been covered in the interview https://t.co/k7Nt4LJ6Vh

Not many outside NE know a ton about him. Tenured Patriots scout on both Pro and College. https://t.co/EMNJd4Pq9D

Just got a text from a Lions staffer, the coaches do not know their fates yet
— Jeff Risdon (@JeffRisdon) January 8, 2016
And we started getting conflicting thoughts regarding Caldwell’s fate:
The #Lions have sent out a release about Bob Quinn's hiring. Nothing in there about the futures of Sheldon White, Jim Caldwell or coaches.
— Michael Rothstein (@mikerothstein) January 9, 2016
Jim Caldwell isn’t safe yet, either. Have to put the #Lions on the McDaniels Watch List now
— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) January 8, 2016
I don't know what's happening with Caldwell, but I think most likely scenario is both are back at this point https://t.co/FfauXM534E
— Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) January 9, 2016
#Lions reporters Tony Ortiz and @kmeinke talk the new GM hire on @WWJ950. Sounds like Caldwell might go after all. https://t.co/IHgOLQgmwK
— Ross Maghielse (@Maghielse) January 9, 2016
One tidbit from Mike's column: "One Patriots insider said late Friday that Quinn is likely to keep Caldwell." https://t.co/9k8PfNghBG
— Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) January 9, 2016
He should make Austin the HC. https://t.co/26Hyi7mZqm
— Joe Banner (@JoeBanner13) January 9, 2016
It's probably been noted, but the timing of this decision ensures Lions not tied to Caldwell, if Quinn wants to go different direction.
— Justin Rogers (@Justin_Rogers) January 8, 2016
Well that clears that up. Let’s check in with @BeastFBall to see how he’s doing:
HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE
— George Kittle's #1 fan™ (@BeastFBall) January 8, 2016
Got it. So what does everyone think of the hire? The results were mixed.
Not sure how extensive the Lions GM search was. At least some of the candidates they asked to speak to never got the chance to interview
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 9, 2016
Accorsi keeps his interview pool small, has for all 5 hires he has consulted on. #Lions no different. Looks like 3 confirmed interviews.
— Dan Hatman (@Dan_Hatman) January 9, 2016
New Lions GM Bob Quinn draws comparisons to ... ex-Lions coach Jim Schwartz https://t.co/10ik43DQXI via @freep
— Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) January 9, 2016
Bob Quinn's going to make an excellent GM for the Lions. I'm a big fan of this very smart man.
— Gil Brandt (@Gil_Brandt) January 8, 2016
At least it's not a Polian
— Ian Does Stuff (@IanFromMichigan) January 8, 2016
By the end of the night though, it seemed everyone had a mostly positive opinion about the hire.
Lions fans wanted a guy from a winning franchise who has experience both in scouting side and pro side, they got Bob Quinn. Excellent hire.
— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) January 8, 2016
Quinn could be excellent. Or terrible.
— Brian Hendo Cinco 🌊 (@brianslionsblog) January 9, 2016
What I do know is the roster Mayhew assembled only needs tweaking; Quinn is setup to succeed in DET.
And this is a very fun note:
In Bob Quinn's 16 seasons with #Patriots they were 4-2 in Super Bowls.
— Paula Pasche (@paulapasche) January 9, 2016
So when can we expect to hear more about Quinn and the fate of Jim Caldwell and by proxy, Teryl Austin, Jim Bob Cooter and Calvin Johnson?

And then this from Ian Rapoport this morning:
A big topic of discussion on @NFLGameDay today: New #Lions GM Bob Quinn will evaluate the coaching situation. Coach Jim Caldwell NOT safe.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 9, 2016
Oh god it’s all happening so fast! At least it appears there is one name Lions fans can scratch off the list of potential Head Coach replacements:
Don't expect Lions will wait that long. https://t.co/Cy6ywW31Gh
— Paula Pasche (@paulapasche) January 9, 2016
And what about our friend @BeastFBall?
NFL source: Hue Jackson is the clear front-runner for the 49ers job, pending his interview on Sunday.
