Just Not Their Year

The Colts and Falcons just recently joined this group of 14 teams that aren’t competing for a playoff spot or for a top five draft pick. This may be the worst group to finish the season in. At least most of these teams are young and have a decent core in place to build around.

Indianapolis Colts. 14. team. 46. The Colts needed a miracle to get in. They couldn’t even get a little help.. (7-8). Previous:

15. team. 44. The Falcons finally got their act together. It was just a couple weeks too late. They’re eliminated thanks to Minnesota and Seattle wins. Better luck next year.. (8-7). Previous: . Atlanta Falcons

28. The Raiders can finish 8-8 with a win against the streaking Chiefs on Sunday. That’s a pretty good season for a young team.. (7-8). Previous: . Oakland Raiders. 16. team

(7-8). Previous: . St. Louis Rams. 17. team. 51. The Rams are still too inconsistent to be better than a .500 team. A franchise quarterback is all they need to make a difference, but they may not be able to find one this year.

Buffalo Bills. 18. team. 16. Like the Raiders, the Bills can finish 8-8 with a win over the Jets on Sunday. It could also mean keeping New York out of the playoffs. Nothing better than spoiling a division foe’s season.. (7-8). Previous:

Previous: . Detroit Lions. 19. team. 50. It’s not all doom and gloom for the Lions. Sure, they’re bringing in a new GM and many Lions fans are anxiously awaiting Jim Caldwell’s departure, but if there’s any organization in the league that a GM would trust to give them a long leash, it’s Detroit. With the Lions’ recent play, maybe Caldwell gets one more year. Maybe.. (6-9)

20. team. 48. Tampa has a lot to look forward to. The offense is decent with tons of young weapons. The defense needs to play better.. (6-9). Previous: . Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New Orleans Saints. 21. team. 15. If Sean Payton survives black Monday, a big if, he’ll be searching for a new defensive coordinator. The Saints’ defense is the reason they don’t have a winning record.. (6-9). Previous:

team. 54. The Eagles have given up at least 20 points to their past nine opponents. In fact, they’ve only held opponents under 20 just three times all season. At least they know what needs work this offseason.. (6-9). Previous: . Philadelphia Eagles. 22

Much like their division counterparts, the Giants need to fix their defense.. (6-9). Previous: . New York Giants. 23. team. 31

Chicago Bears. 24. team. 57. The Bears actually have six one-score losses this year. Five of their six wins have been in one-score contests. They may have work to do, but the Bears have been fun to watch this year.. (6-9). Previous:

25. team. 52. Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson have combined for some serious offense. They could use some growth in talent just about everywhere else.. (5-10). Previous: . Jacksonville Jaguars

59. Miami has been below average on both sides of the ball all year. When they bring a new coach in, he’ll have his hands full with this Dolphins roster.. (5-10). Previous: . Miami Dolphins. 26. team

26. The Ravens likely played themselves out of a top five pick by beating the Steelers and possibly ending their playoff chances. I would bet the team would take that trade off any day.. (5-10). Previous: . Baltimore Ravens. 27. team
