Detroit Lions Top GM Candidates
By Jeff Risdon
Ted Sundquist
Current job: Runs The Football Educator and works in various sports media
Why he fits: Experience is his top calling card. Sundquist held the role of GM in Denver from 2002-08. The worst record under his tenure was 7-9, the only losing season. Before being promoted to GM, he was the Director of Scouting and primarily responsible for several great draft finds.
Prior to joining the Broncos, the Houston native served as Head Coach at Air Force, his alma mater. His coaching experience is a real advantage in terms of understanding the locker room and team building dynamics.
Hangups: His drafts were a mixed bag. Check out the 2003 and ’04 hauls; they’re Millen-esque. He’s been out of the NFL for almost a decade, though he did run a UFL franchise and has stayed close to the game.
