2. Laken Tomlinson (R) vs. Manny Ramirez

Both of these names joined the Detroit Lions roster in the same night, it what may have been the move of the offseason by general manager, Martin Mayhew.

In the round one of the 2015 NFL Draft, Mayhew traded back, from No. 23 overall to No. 28, picking up veteran offensive guard/center Manny Ramirez in the process. Then, when they went back on the clock a few minutes later, they selected Duke guard Laken Tomlinson.

By doing so, Detroit’s offensive line went from key area of concern to moderately improved in a matter of minutes.

Now, entering training camp, we also have a hell of a position battle set to take place.

Thus far through offseason workouts, it was reported that Ramirez was working out with the first team offense. Tomlinson however, is a very intelligent individual, and is likely to catch on to plays and assignments rather quickly.

If the former Blue Devil is able to beat out the veteran and land the starting role, Ramirez will then provide valuable depth to both the guard, and center position behind second year player, Travis Swanson.
