Day two of Detroit Lions OTA’s wrapped up this afternoon at the team’s training facility in Allen Park, Michigan. There was plenty of news following Wednesday’s practice session, including the absence of two key rookies, some dropped passes, and a fan-favorite getting another chance to prove himself.
Who Wasn’t There?
Among the faces not present at day two of Detroit Lions OTA’s were two rookie draft picks from the 2015 NFL Draft — running back Ameer Abdullah and cornerback Alex Carter.
#Lions RB Ameer Abdullah cannot take part in OTAs today or tomorrow because he's attending the rookie premier in LA

Alex Carter is not at OTAs because Stanford is still in school. Caldwell said he expects Carter back in the next week or so

While those are both great reasons to miss the early voluntary workouts, there were some others absent for different reasons.
Running back Joique Bell and offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle both remained sidelined while continuing to recover from minor offseason surgeries. Absent from team drills were offensive guard Larry Warford, tight end Joseph Fauria, as well as linebackers DeAndre Levy and Stephen Tulloch.
Fauria and Warford sat out team drills. #Lions

No Alex Carter or Ameer Abdullah (rookie premier) at #Lions OTA today. Bell, Waddle sat out; Tullouch, Levy, Fauria no team drills

It makes sense for a lot of these guys to be absent, as it is still early in the summer and head coach Jim Caldwell and company may just want to take some precautions.
