Why he should stay: There’s no doubting that George Winn is a hard runner that puts everything he has into his carries. Every time I see him run the ball, he looks as though he’s going to break his neck for that first down. It’s for this reason that fans grew to like George Winn after a decent preseason showing last year. Winn wound up making the 53 man roster and contributed nicely to the special teams unit.
Why he should go: Back to that neck breaking thing. Not to say that Winn could suffer an injury as bad as that, but the way Winn runs the ball, it seems as though he will get injured at any second. I applaud the hard nose approach. But every time Winn smacks his helmet against another players, I wonder if he’s going to get back up. Aside from that, the Lions are taking a different approach to their running game this year by further delving into the committee style system.
Final determination:The Lions already have their power guy in Joique Bell. Also the pick up of undrafted free agent rookie Zach Zenner is going to make things very hard on the Southfield native. I his like George Winn and drive, but I just can’t see him making the final 53 man roster. That’s not to say he won’t be sticking around on the practice squad.
