Eddie Murray beats the clock in 1981
Through much of their history the Lions have made a habit of making things overly difficult on themselves. That was the case in the closing seconds of a 1981 game against the Cowboys.
Rather than spike the ball to stop the clock, Eddie Murray and the field goal unit rushed on the field to beat the clock for a 47-yard game winning field goal. As he did for much of his career, steady Eddie nailed it for the Lions 27-24 win.
The game winning field goal gave the Lions their only lead of the day and completed the comeback from a 17-0 second quarter deficit.
