On the Decline

Michael Williams

After loading the tight end position with talent this offseason, the Lions decided to move Michael Williams to offensive tackle in hopes of him having a better shot at contributing.

Things started off well for Williams after putting on an extra 15 pounds since OTAs, but he’s had a minor setback after suffering an undisclosed injury, forcing him to miss the last couple of practices.

Head Coach Jim Caldwell has noted that Williams’ injury is not considered long-term, but after missing his entire rookie season, Williams will need all of the snaps he can get moving forward.

Kris Durham

Durham hasn’t exactly had a disappointing camp so far, but after starting opposite of Calvin Johnson last year, it’s not even a certainty that he will remain on the Lions roster this year.

So far, guys like Jeremy Ross and Kevin Ogletree are continuing to flash during camp, and don’t forget about Broyles getting closer to 100 percent as the days go by.

Durham will need to step it up on offense during the preseason if he wants to remain on the Lions roster, because he hasn’t contributed much on special teams since joining the Lions. Last year Durham only accounted for one snap on special teams over the last 12 games of the season.

LaAdrian Waddle

So far, both Waddle and Corey Hilliard have been splitting time as the first-team right tackle during camp.

My guess is that it’s Waddle’s spot to lose, but he’s reportedly had his ups and downs during one-on-one and team drills.

There is still plenty of time for Waddle to distance himself from Hilliard at RT, but as of right now it’s a lot closer than anyone expected.
