At home, on Monday night, in what basically amounts to a playoff game, the Lions’ high-powered offense mustered 16 points.
That game should never have come down to a 61-yard Justin Tucker field goal (although was that ever impressive), because 18 points shouldn’t be enough to win against the Lions.
But this Lions team has made a habit this season of falling short of expectations, and Monday night was the ultimate example of that.
The Lions are still in the playoff hunt, but they’ve lost control of their destiny, and don’t look like they’d be a tough matchup for any playoff team if they did make it. They’re obviously talented, but talented and good are two different things. There’s obviously a disconnect between the two somewhere.
As a result, the Lions may have just activated the countdown to Jim Schwartz’s unemployment. If the Lions don’t manage the playoffs, we’re probably at T-minus 13 days (as of publication date).
Next Game: 12/22 vs. New York Giants (5-9)
