A number of websites have opened up their 2013 fantasy football leagues with some drafts already underway. I don’t recommend drafting so far in advance of the season but it isn’t a bad time to start planning ahead.
Why a top 100 and not individual position rankings? Drafts aren’t conducted position by position so a choice to select any player or position is also a choice against all other players and positions. An opportunity cost is involved and my rankings are specifically formed to take that into account.
First, a couple quick notes:
- It is natural to want to see where your favorite players land in any set of rankings.I assure you that any disappointment you may find is not a result of me being a hater. In fact, my numbers-based methodology doesn’t even allow for me to insert any biases I may hold – unless you know of an Excel function I don’t know about.
- Josh Gordon‘s suspension has been figured into these rankings with Gordon slipping from 78 to just outside the top 100. While missing the first two games is sure to have an impact on where Gordon goes in your draft, keep an eye on the situation to make sure he doesn’t slide too far. After all, the suspension does nothing to his predicted production on a per game basis, fantasy owners just won’t have him at their disposal for weeks one and two.
Now on with the rankings…
Look for a couple more updates before the NFL regular season begins.
