Ranking the Top 10 Lions quarterbacks of all-time
By Ryan Heckman
5. Gary Danielson
What is it with mediocre quarterbacks spending so much time in Detroit? I suppose the better question is, why has Detroit allowed it to happen? A former undrafted quarterback out of Purdue, Gary Danielson joined the Lions back in 1976 and spent nine seasons there, somehow.
I say "somehow," because once again, this guy was apparently good enough to get a shot in the NFL. He might work the broadcasting booth and in sports media in his post-football career, but that's where he's belonged all along. After all, Danielson finished his career at Purdue throwing 14 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. I don't even need to go into further detail.
And, here he is, number five on the Lions' all-time quarterback list. Yikes.
Over his Lions career, Danielson threw for 11,885 yards, 69 touchdowns and 71 interceptions. Hilariously enough, the Cleveland Browns saw what Danielson did with the Lions and took him on for the final three years of his career.
