5 2024 free agents on Super Bowl LVIII teams who should interest the Detroit Lions
1. Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed
Sneed was good primarily lining up in the slot over his first three seasons, and he didn't miss a beat with a move outside this year. Pro Football Focus had him as their 28th-highest graded cornerback in the league (73.7 overall grade), as he allowed just a 51 percent completion rate and a 56.2 passer rating in his coverage. In the playoffs thus far, he has basically shut down (save for a big play here or there) Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs and Zay Flowers.
Sneed is also very capable against the run (78 tackles this season, 108 tackles in 2022), and he has shown he can be an effective blitzer (3.5 sacks in 2022). This season, his 14 pass breakups were tied for eighth in the league.
Penalties are a bit of thing with Sneed (13 committed, nine accepted during the regular season this year-according to Pro Football Reference). But his aggressiveness is something a lot of teams could use in their secondary (including the Lions of course), and the trade-off is worth it. If anything, working with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn in Detroit could help him curb some of the issue with drawing flags.
Sneed is one of the top free agent cornerbacks this year, if not the top for some. That naturally means he won't come cheap, but if the Lions are going to make a big free agent investment it should be in a certified No. 1 cornerback like this.
Other 2024 Super Bowl LVIII free agents the Lions could have interest in: Chiefs OG Nick Allegretti, 49ers DE Chase Young, Chiefs DT Derrick Nnadi, 49ers EDGE Randy Gregory
