5. CB Will Harris
Harris led the Lions' defense in snaps played in 2021 (1,012), as he also had 93 total tackels that season. He has found a home as a slot corner after strugglng early in his career as a safety. The coaching staff clearly likes what he has to offer. But his role is lined up to fade toward depth and likely a core special teamer this year, as C.J. Gardner-Johnson becomes the nickel corner and snaps are found for rookie Brian Branch.
Last year, in 15 games and pressed into duty as he was in a talent-thin cornerback group, Harris allowed a 70.5 percent completion rate and a 106.0 passer rating in his coverage (according toPro Football Reference) with one interception. That is simply not very good, and certainly not good enough to warrant a lot of playing time in anything other than a desperate situation in the Lions' secondary.
There could be a question there with minicamp this week and training camp to come in July. But Harris will probably make the Lions' roster out of training camp this year, even just as the fifth or sixth cornerback. But it seems like a lock he'll be plying his trade elsewhere in 2024.
