Jared Goff makes bold prediction for Tim Patrick's role in Lions' offense
By Max DeMara
The Detroit Lions needed another wide receiver coming into the season, and and they signed Tim Patrick to the practice squad. As expected it took a little time for Patrick to get acclimated, but now things seem to be coming together.
Dan Campbell watched Patrick make plays in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, and was not surprised given how hard he has worked alongside Allen Robinson
"He gets better and better every week. One of the things I love about Tim Patrick, and I put Allen Robinson in the same boat. I am glad both of those guys are here. Just in the way that they handle their business, they're still young players. What I mean by that is, they want the coaching. 'How do you want it, what is this, give me all the little details to this, tell me exactly how you want it.' They're very coachable. There's no 'I've played in this league eight years, 10 years, I know what I'm doing, I don't need you.' There's no entitlement whatsoever. These guys just come in and work their rear off. They want it. They help out across the board, not only for us but for the scout team."
The unselfish mindset has served Patrick well, and proved how good a fit he is overall. Campbell also pointed to the growing connection between Patrick and Jared Goff.
"I feel like Tim's gotten better and better every week. He brings a skill set that we need in that room that's different. There's a place for him here. I know he's gaining the trust of us offensively, but also (Jared) Goff. The trust is getting there quickly."
Jared Goff believes Tim Patrick can really impact the Lions' offense
After signing with the Lions, it was clear that it would take Patrick some time to figure things out within the offense. In Week 4, there were signs that the lightbulb has begun to come on, which is a fantastic development for Goff.
Following Patrick's two reception, 52-yard performance against Seattle, it's clear that Goff is a fan of what he has seen from the veteran pass catcher. Joining "Karsch & Anderson" on 97.1 The Ticket Wednesday, Goff hinted that this is just the beginning of what he sees as a great connection.
"He has been a perfect fit. He is unselfish, he blocks, he cares. He's a great teammate. He's competitive and he's got great hands and he's trustworthy on his routes. As a quarterback, that's all you can ask for. It's been tremendous. I think getting him on that dagger late in the game was good for him and I to get back in rhythm. You think about a guy who hasn't played real football for a couple years, to get him back feeling good, getting into rhythm, I think it was just the beginning. The sky's the limit for him and I. I can't wait to keep growing with him."
If Patrick can continue to grow as a weapon for the Lions, it will make a dynamic offense even more dangerous.
