Loser: QB Jared Goff

Take out his five interceptions, since they weren't all his fault or created equal (tipped balls, a Hail Mary at the end of the first half). PFF considered three of the interceptions turnover-worthy plays. Now, let's get to some more pointed analysis.

Before the fourth quarter, Goff was not sharp on Sunday night (oddly bad throws, etc.). Chunks of his yards in the second half came after the catch on screens to Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

Leaving aside the randomness or bad fortune of the interceptions, and those who want to flimsily point at Sam LaPorta and Jameson Williams for not doing him in any favors on the two worst throws/reads, 15-for-30 with a 59.7 passer rating is not good enough from Goff. He was the No. 1 reason the Lions could have lost on Sunday night, but the defense, some plays from his playmakers and two 50-plus yard kicks from Bates bailed him out.

The Lions look like the most complete team in the NFL. But the bad version of Goff, against a good team that was down two of its best players, almost got them beaten on Sunday night. In similar situations down the road, they might be as lucky.

Loser: CB Terrion Arnold

Arnold has generally played better after a penalty-filled start to his rookie season, but Sunday was a definite step back. Texans wide receivers Tank Dell and John Metchie beat him too easily at times, he committed a 41-yard pass interference penalty in the first half when he simply didn't get his head around and he was lucky to not draw another pass interference in a big spot late in the game.

Cornerback is arguably the toughest position to learn and adjust to as an NFL rookie, so Arnold still gets some leeway and grace roughly halfway through his first season. But
