2. CB Amani Oruwariye

Trading Oruwariye once felt like it would never happen. After a breakout six-interception season last year, he was in line for a contract extension from the Lions as a key piece to build the defense around.

But this season has been a struggle, and struggle may not be a strong enough word to describe it. Oruwariye has been routinely beaten, around missing a game with a back injury, having a penalty-filled game and being benched for a game. He has played every snap in each of the last two games, if only by default. With Jerry Jacobs in line to play more (or at all, after not playing a single defensive snap against the Dolphins) and Will Harris off the injury report, Oruwariye has done nothing to be worthy of keeping a big role.

If the Lions should not been considering giving Oruwariye a contract extension right now. If anything, they should be ready to let him go unabated as he plays out the final year of his contract.

The question here is what the trade market would even be for Oruwariye, if anything, which brings the element of surprise in for moving him. But if there is at least one team with a need at cornerback who thinks they can coach him back to his 2021 level, the Lions should open to offers.
