1. DT Malcom Brown

After being let go by the Jacksonville Jaguars in mid-August, Brown remains available. The Lions  had him in for a visit not too far after that, but they did not sign him.

Second-year defensive tackle Levi Onwurike (back/hip) is going to miss at least two more games on IR, and the way his injury has apparently not progressed nearing the two-month mark means he’ll surely miss more than four games.

The Lions defensive line has not been awful through two games. Their struggles in Week 1 were firmly rooted in not being able to contain Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts, not being gashed by the traditional running back-driven run game as was the case oftentimes last season.

Brown, as mentioned before and for whatever it’s worth, overlapped with Lions head coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn in New Orleans with the Saints for two seasons (2019 and 2020).

Assuming Campbell still wants to add “girth” to the Lions’ defensive line (and not to be cavalier about it), the 320-pound Brown fits the bill. And there’s a definite opportunity to circle back to him if they want to.
