5 players you forgot played for the Detroit Lions
2. KR/PR/WR Desmond Howard
Howard, the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Michigan, did not have a distinguished NFL career as a pass catcher. But he was a pretty good return man at times, with being named MVP of the Green Bay Packers win in Super Bowl XXXI as his career highlight.
Howard spent the final three-plus seasons of his career, 1999-2002, back in Michigan playing for the Lions. He had two punt return touchdowns over his time as a Lion, and he was top-five in the league in kickoff return yards in 2000 and 2001.
1. QB Don Majkowski
“Magic Man” has the distinction of being the last quarterback to start a game for the Packers (in 1992) before Brett Favre began his epic consecutive start streak. Majkowski earned his nickname in 1989, when he led the league in fourth quarter comebacks (five) and game-winning drives (seven). It was also the only time he started at least 10 games in a season during his career.
Majkowski made it a full 10 NFL seasons, which is an accomplishment itself. He spent the last two in Detroit (1995 and 1996), with 10 appearances, two starts and a total of 122 pass attempts for the Lions.
