Fifth Round

50. CB. Daron Bland. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Fresno State. 177

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is particularly high on Bland, ranking him at No. 121 in his top 150 prospects for the 2022 draft.

Bland transferred to Fresno State from Sacramento State for the 2021 season. He started all 13 games for the Bulldogs last year, with 45 total tackles, two interceptions, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Bland has decent size (6-foot, 197 pounds), to the point there’s buzz he could be transitioned to safety at the next level. He wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, but he tested and measured well at his Pro Day (4.46 40, 35.5-inch vertical, 7.26 three-cone, 4.15 short shuttle, 35-inch arms). The combination of his traits, with some room to develop, say he’s an NFL cornerback.

The Lions addressed the need a safety with Joseph to wrap up their Day 2 picks. In the fifth round, it’s time to add a cornerback and Bland was the guy for me here. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and defensive backs coach Aunrey Pleasant get an interesting pupil to work with.
