Sixth Round

Florida A&M. Markquese Bell. 181. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. S. 50

Bell is a popular safety sleeper in this draft, and often mentioned as a potential later round target for the Lions. In all the 2022 mocks we’ve done here at SideLion Report, going back to during the 2021 season, I think this is the first time Detroit has landed him.

At 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, Bell ran a 4.41 40 at the NFL Combine. He is a downhill thumper, with 156 total tackles (11.5 tackles for loss) and six interceptions over two seasons at Florida A&M (2019 and 2021, the team did not play in fall of 2020).

Bell is a developmental prospect, but he could become a future star. A sixth-round flier, however simulated, was well-warranted here.

Pick Analysis. player. 50. 217. Scouting Report. LB. Penn State. Ellis Brooks

Brooks posted an even 100 tackles during his final season at Penn State, with 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 12 games.

Brooks is smaller than ideal (6-foot-1, 226 pounds), but gets high marks for his effort, football IQ and solid all-around skills. He is held back by a lack of athleticsm in some aspects (coverage, sideline-to-sideline range), and his lack of bulk leads to struggles to overcome physical blocks.

While all of the aformentioned knocks indicate he won’t last long in the NFL, if he gets a chance at all, Brooks may be able to overcome based on what he does offer. In a broad sense, he seems like a Dan Campbell kind of player.

Seventh Round

The pick the Lions lost in the Trinity Benson trade was their seventh-rounder, so they don’t have a pick in the final round right now. Writers who cover the team may be secretly hoping it stays that way.
