Desperate for a first-round quarterback?

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is experiencing a meteoric rise in his draft stock following the San Francisco 49ers trading up to the third overall spot. The Niners and their head coach, Kyle Shanahan, are rumored to be favoring the Crimson Tide passer for that pick.

Yet, one NFL.com article headline by NFL media analyst Bucky Brooks claims Jones isn’t even worthy of a first-round selection. So if Jones happens to fall the Detroit at seven, there’s a real possibility four quarterbacks have already been taken off their board.

If new Lions general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell feel pressured to draft Jones as the future replacement for Jared Goff, undoubtedly fans will be up in arms. For many, it’s unlikely they’ll feel the rookie is an actual upgrade over Goff, who himself isn’t considered an upgrade from the quarterback the Lions traded away this offseason, Matthew Stafford.

If Mac Jones falls out of the top five. there’s a chance he falls out of the first round completely. So the Lions selecting him at seven overall seems like a reach of gigantic proportions and could have the fans storming the metaphorical gates with torches and pitchforks.
