Kenny Golladay implications

Kenny Golladay was a candidate for the franchise tag which would have made him unable to sign with another team but would have forced the Detroit Lions to pay him at least $15.98 million dollars for 2021, according to the Over The Cap website.

Golladay had already turned down offers that were reported to be from $16 million to $19 million dollars worth of salary according to multiple NFL sources.

Ultimately, Holmes decided not to tag Golladay who signed a four-year, $72 million dollar contract with the New York Giants.

Golladay has traditionally been a great 50/50-ball player and a guy who can “go and get it” but has ranked near the bottom of the NFL in separation yards as defined by NFL’s Next Gen Stats. His average for 2019 was 1.9 yards of separation although his 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns earned “KG” a Pro Bowl appearance.

Jared Goff has done best with quicker, sometimes smaller receivers like Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp at his disposal. Both are in the six-foot, 200-pounds range and more quick than fast, as neither topped the 4.5-second forty-yard-dash mark. What they do possess are burst and route-running.
